CURRENT AFFAIRS FOR THE MONTH OF MAY 2019- CLASSES IV & V

1) Nirmala Sitharaman became India's first woman Finance Minister.
2) Rajnath Singh has been appointed as the new Defence Minister, while BJP chief Amit Shah became the new Home Minister. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will keep Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Atomic Energy and Department of Space Ministry. 
3) Admiral Karambir Singh took charge as the 24th Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) from Adm. Sunil Lamba, who stepped down upon retirement.
4.) Indian-origin Anita Bhatia has been appointed as the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres as the Deputy Executive Director of the United Nation. 
5) ICC World Cup 2019 began from 30th May in England. England played the opening match against South Africa. The World Cup span 48 matches in all. Total of 10 teams participated in this tournament. 

6.) Indian Space Research Organisation or ISRO successfully launched earth observation satellite RISAT-2B that would enhance the country surveillance capabilities among others.

8) The Indian Air Force (IAF) has successfully test fired the air-launched version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from its frontline Su-30MKI fighter aircraft.
9.) The Retired judge of Indian Supreme Court Justice Madan B Lokur has been appointed as a Judge of  Supreme Court of Fiji.
10.) India’s Captain Aarohi Pandit became world’s first woman to cross Atlantic Ocean solo in a Light Sports Aircraft named Mahi.
11.) Japan Welcomes new emperor Naruhito as Reiwa era begins.
12.) Aarohi Pandit became the first women to cross the Atlantic Ocean in an ultralight aircraft.
13.) Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) President Prem Singh Golay has been Sworn-in as the new Chief Minister of Sikkim.
14.)  Narendra Modi took oath as the Prime Minister of India for the second time at Rashtrapati Bhawan on 30th May 2019.
15.) Jagan Mohan Reddy of YSRCP Party took oath as the new Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
16.) King Maha Vajiralongkorn was crowned as the new king of Thailand, marking the first ascension of a new monarch in seven decades.
17.) Former Croatia legend Igor Stimac has been appointed as Indian men’s football team coach.
18.)  Ireland has declared a climate emergency in their country. It is the second country after Britain to do so. 
19.) MS Dhoni became the most successful wicket-keeper in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with 132 dismissals.
